Recording 3-D surveys has become the norm, instead of the exception. However, academic research and teaching have struggled to keep up with the 3-D revolution. This book, 3-D Seismic Imaging, aimes at helping academic seismology to catch-up with industrial practices by introducing the theory of seismic imaging from the 3-D perspective. Design of Land 3D Seismic Surveys with OMNI 3D® This three-day hands-on training course provides students with the foundations needed to use OMNI 3D® in a full range of quality control and design tasks for land seismic acquisition planning from field QC to advanced design analyses.

Reflection seismology (or seismic reflection) is a method of exploration geophysics that uses the principles of seismology to estimate the properties of the Earth's subsurface from reflected seismic method requires a controlled seismic source of energy, such as dynamite or Tovex blast, a specialized air gun or a seismic vibrator, commonly known by the trademark . The first edition of this book was a slightly modified version of my dissertation (defended in February ). This second edition has been extended considerably. Many technological developments of the past 10 years have been included. Feedback from students attending my course on 3D survey design has helped clarify various not-so-clear discussions in the book.

of planning and designing a survey. The class will discuss different survey techniques, designs and geophysical limitations, along with field layouts and operational issues. Modern acquisition equipment and recording techniques will be shown along with future directions and current state of the art for the industry. 3D Land Seismic Planning. ditures on seismic surveys by almost 60%, to $ billion.1 However, an estimated 10% of surveys fail to achieve their primary objective—some because the technology does not exist to process the data, some because the surveys are improperly planned.2Careful planning can result in more cost-effective acquisition and process-File Size: 1MB.
